GONG XI FA CAI!! .. A little belated I know, but happy CNY to all!
Have been away in Malaysia for the last week "celebrating" the beginning of the Year of the Rooster. Actually I wouldn't use the word celebrating, more like rotting away in complete and utter boredom. I went to Mersing for CNY eve and the first 3 days, JB for the next couple of days, and I now remember why I don't go more often.. Apart from (home) gambling (which I don't really partake in anyway), there really isn't much else to do there. Well, at least I caught up on some sleep and finished two books that I've been meaning to read for absolutely ages. Not many of my cousins were there (all decided to go to their gf/bf's hometowns.. and not tell me about it!!), and nor were my sisters which added to my boredom. I've decided, I'm going back to Perth next year!
But at least this year, I managed to "play" with firecrackers and a family friend (illegally) bought fireworks to set off at midnight on CNY day. Only in Malaysia, of course!

It's supposed to be "my year", I was born in the Year of the Rooster almost 24 years ago. So far the horoscope predictions have been rather mixed, some saying I'll have great fortune, others warning of a bad year for us chickens.. here's one I received this morning in an email:
Who knows?!

In 2005, your energy level rises. Rooster souls are offered large projects, contracts and management positions. Don't hesitate to declare your love for that special someone this year. You will find the necessary words to convince them of your devotion and a marriage proposal could be accepted immediately. If you want to change career or company, 2005 is definitely favourable to take the necessary steps. Do not neglect even a small cut or scrape; as there could be an increased risk of infection at this time. A brief dip in luck during September and October will require tireless Roosters to devote more time to everything and exhaustion from overwork may take its toll. Roosters find themselves crying metaphorically "Who will help me make this bread?" Remember to balance your life, time and workload with sufficient rest. Changes will take place in your life during this year, which will set the stage for future progress.
Who knows?!

[ Wild Wild Wet and other Downtown East adventures ]

Saturday (a whole half week ago!) was spent with my colleagues, but thankfully not in a work setting. We had our CNY/February monthly outing which comprised of a BBQ at a chalet at Costa Sands (Pasir Ris, in the extreme east of Singapore), "lou yu sheng", mahjong, card games, drinking (and the drinking games that go hand in hand with drinking)..
But before the evening activities, a couple of us (about 7 colleagues) headed down to check out the water theme park at Downtown East, i.e. Wild Wild Wet. I don't know if it's just me, but I think that name sounds rather seedy and corny at the same time. It was mediocre at best, but we tried to make the most of it.. and it was a stinking hot day, so a bit of water to cool us down didn't harm. Although I think we were the oldest people there without children.......
The BBQ turned out to be quite a bit of fun. There was a LOT of food and resulted in a lot of leftovers to be brought home... The drinking games were the funniest, especially Indian Poker (easiest game to play with a big group of people). Somehow, the 2 of diamonds kept showing up, and on the final round, who got it but ME! After all the booze was consumed, and many incriminating (and very unglam!) photos of my red-faced, drunken colleagues were taken, nothing else to do but make the long trip home......
