[ Sleep, my long lost friend, where have you gone? ]
posted @ 03:25 AM by fel
Tired, knackered, exhausted, drained, spent, worn-out .. and every other synonym for how I'm feeling now.
Lack of sleep that is what I blame it on. And 15 hour working days followed by partying is not a good idea.
I believe a sleepfest is in store this weekend.

A heavy Friday night out and all-day-relaxing Saturday and Sunday.
Straight out from work Friday evening, went to the opening cocktail party of Blooming Affairs, a newly opened florist down at River Valley, to support my flatmate (her client, and she organized the party) and consume the free flow champagne/wine. Gorgeous little place, and the flowers there were stunning.
Then off to Bar Stop for a quick pit stop and few hellos. Soon after, the Red Room to "show face". The usual Velvet at Cinderella time. Bored of the prentiousness, so off to
Happy where there was none of that. Enjoyed myself there, cute boys feeding me lychee martini's in an unthreatening atmosphere. And GREAT music, seriously pumping.
Final, end-of-night drink down at Club 95. The end, finally at 4am, and time for bed.
And bed is pretty much where I was all of Saturday. Catching up on my sleep (as promised!) and general laziness all around. And it was great, just what I needed. A pretty similar Sunday, but inclusive of a few good hours out in the sun by the pool, trying to work on my tan (I'm over the pale, white, I-look-like-I've-had-the-life-sucked-out-of-me look
).
But yes, the week begins again after tonight's slumber...

[ The hog has arrived in Singapore ]
posted @ 04:05 AM by fel
One of my favourite steak joints back in Perth has arrived in Singapore just last week; Hog's Breath Cafe!! Down at Chijmes, this outlet has a nice open outdoor area as well as pool tables (with tv screens to catch the sports) in the bar area. Cosy and casual, and most importantly, the grub is good quality comfort food. Prices are reasonable (SGD28-32 for 300g steak including sides - btw, hog's tail fries are the only way to go!!) and happy hour daily from 4pm-8pm ($5++ for draught beers and house pours, can't say no to that
).
Thus ends plug, heh.

[ Wanderlust ]

One reason I moved to Singapore was to gain the ability travel more and explore Asia. Singapore is on the doorstep of a wide variety of Asian countries that I've not yet had the chance to visit. Not to mention, with the introduction of many budget airlines (Tiger, ValuAir, JetStarAsia etc), fares are competitively priced .. so there is increasingly less excuse to feed my wanderlust bug.
Next few months will be full of travelling, much to my delight; Malaysia and HK at the end of this month, Bangkok and (back home for CNY to) Perth in January, and Bali in February. Haha, and I wonder why my bank account balance is looking so miserly?!?!
And there are just still many Asian destinations I'm dying to visit.. Hanoi (Vietnam), Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam), Angkor (Cambodia), Taipei (Taiwan), Shanghai and various cities of China, Seoul (Korea), Tokyo (Japan), Phuket (Thailand), just to name a few! Oh, and I promised my Eastern States friends that I would make a trip to Sydney sometime next year too!!

[ The Villa Bali ]

No, unfortunately last night I wasn't in Bali, but a place that purports to bring a taste of Bali into Singapore. Yes, the Balinese furniture, the lush greenery and environment was there, but I still didn't feel the same relaxing atmosphere and ambience as when I was actually in Bali ... may be had something to do with the tiger skin print stools and the Singaporean waiters/waitresses
No matter, great company and a chilled out evening over drinks and shisha (peach flavour!) made all the difference to an enjoyable Friday night out. And we'll be experiencing the real thing soon enough (Feb, hopefully if all the plans go through .. fingers crossed!).

December is supposed to be my off-peak period at work.. but I broke my personal record (for the latest time stayed in the office) on Tuesday night - 1 am. No fun at all. Thankfully I wasn't last, so I didn't have to turn off the lights haha... that horror show The Office comes into mind right now...
Anyway, projects just keep flooding in; before I complete the ones assigned to me, I'm inundated with more and more work. What's worse is that I've got to meet these tight deadlines before I go on leave (the following week). Sigh, it's going to be madness. Definitely no picture taking, panda eyes are in store.
I don't care but January is going to be SLACK. Bangkok for a week, Perth for another week.. and yes, I do believe I deserve this break!! For the moment, just gotta keep telling myself to keep focused...

[ MoS lands in Singapore ]
posted @ 08:08 AM by fel
So, Friday night, couple of friends and I went to the official opening night of The Ministry of Sound here in Singapore. Located down at the highly popular restaurant/bar/club area of Singapore, Clarke Quay, its made the place get from busy to even busier.
I went with an open mind, probably a few pre-conceptions in my mind, but hoping to have a good night out. But it was a rather *meh* experience. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that I was wearing new shoes (what a fool, do I never learn!) that killed my feet.. and probably most of my mood. In the end, I surrendered and just took them off!
Anyhow, the club itself .. MASSIVE. The largest club in Singapore, double the size of Zouk (but you know what, somehow Zouk still feels like "home" .. haha!). Its sectioned off into various areas:
1. the main dance arena in the centre, playing signature MoS techno and might I add rather disappointingly too.. may be if I was off my face, I might have enjoyed it but that kinda defeats the purpose?;
2. Pure, the white room which plays lounge. Hmmm not sure why, but it felt very Velvet-esque except that everything was so bright.. the floors were white, but not for long - clubbers do not have clean shoes!;
3. Smoove, the hip-hop/r'n'b room, with a rather kinky cage surrounding the dance floor. I do like my r'n'b but sad to say, I couldn't get my groove really going to the music they played;
4. 54, yes as you may have guessed, disco music and lit-up dance floor. Think John Travolta. No further comment.
5. Various VIP rooms/sections.
Oh and the biggest surprise was bumping into sexy Sui Lin (nice to have met you girl!
) .. very random, but goes to show how small the world is!
So all in all .. it was an experience to see what this famous UK club had to offer, but quite disappointed overall. However, I'm thinking it might have had to do with my aching feet so I MAY go and try it out again .. but with my proper dancing shoes!!!!

[ A week of sisterly love ]
posted @ 09:20 PM by fel
My second sis arrived in Singapore on Sunday night, beginning her one month "holiday" out in the region. Unfortunately, I've been working pretty late and not been able to accompany her out and show her around Singapore .. except for the late night activities (this is another reason as to why I am still single......haha). Its been nice to have someone to come home to; my sister is always eagerly waiting for me after a long day at work (eager to see me, or eager to go out?
).
Monday night was dinner at Gluttons Bay (Gluttons Square relocated at the Esplanade) where my sister got so excited because she saw "celebrities", albeit Singaporean celebrities :p (Gurmit Singh and Michelle Chia) I think she really wanted to take a picture with them actually, but she was chided by Y and I ... we then headed to Balaclava (Suntec) for some beers, and somehow got convinced to go to Bar None .. until 3 am!!
Tuesday was a lot calmer, but Wednesday night was very interesting (to say the least). The plan was Balaclava then Zouk for my weekly mambo/retro action. However, we got "stuck" at Bala .. and then my sister drank more than her capacity, which kinda grinded things to a halt and we went back home (prematurely) at 1am. I just want to say that it was a lucky thing that it rained the next day; the err... "remains" at the front of my apartment were thankfully washed away
Thursday night; after gorging down the yummiest claypot chicken rice you'll ever imagine (#02 at Chinatown Complex, Smith Street), we went karaoke-ing for 4 hours. Amazing how time flies when you're having fun. My sister goes a little crazy when she goes to karaoke.. something you have to really experience to truly get a clear understanding of what I mean by crazy.. so I was well and truly tired by the end of the 4 hour sess!
Half day today, so leaving work soon .. and thus begins my 10 day holiday!! Be back in Singapore on the 2nd January, and back to work on the 3rd... ciao for now
